Djerba Art Residency

A place for creative freedom and exploration, fostering bold, poetic, and independent art within the unique cultural landscape of Djerba island

Djerba Art Residence is a program launched in 2024 to revitalize the cultural and artistic scene in Djerba.
Designed as a true experimental laboratory, Djerba Art Residence stands at the intersection of visual and performing arts to break down the barriers of contemporary practices. By freeing creators from traditional disciplinary boundaries, it offers a hybrid space for expression where materials, gestures, and performance interact with complete freedom. Beyond this formal liberation, the residency builds an essential intergenerational bridge by facilitating a dialogue between established artists and emerging talents.

This residency was designed to provide emerging artists with the opportunity to create alongside established professionals. Conceived as a shared living and creative space, it aims to deconstruct practices to bring forth a free, expressive, poetic, and daring form of art, far from rigid and restrictive frameworks.

The Previous Session

During our last edition, we welcomed Tunisian-Italian actor Aymen Mabrouk (43) and actress, poet, and psychologist Lina Jardak (25).
After exploring the island, they shared a creative space in Sidi Bouhjar at the Djerba Center for Dramatic Arts. During a one-month free residency, they adapted Valère Novarina's "The Theater of Speech" and presented a 15-minute public performance.
